LIGHTNING PREDICTION SYSTEM POLICY

The Thor-Guard Lightning Prediction System has been installed to provide protection from lightning disasters for the public at the following Cooper City facilities:
  • Cooper City Sports Complex – 10300 Stirling Road, 33026
  • Bill Lips Sports Complex – 11700 SW 49th Street, 33330
  • Cooper City Pool & Tennis Center – 11600 Stonebridge Parkway, 33026
When the Thor-Guard warning system sounds, (a 15-second horn blast), the outdoor facility must be cleared of all patrons as soon as practical.  Also, all persons must seek and remain in buildings or vehicles – not dugouts.  During this period, a strobe light on top of the buildings will light up, indicating the warning, and will continue to operate until the weather clears and the “all clear” signal sounds, (3 short horn blasts), at which time patrons can resume their activities.
